We are so excited to welcome in SO many incoming families this year and are truly looking forward to another fantastic year! We hope you are all finding time to rest and recharge and to do things you love. Below are a few updates pertaining to middle school students/families:
1. Community Groupings and Daily Schedule: Students will be in one of four Communities (100, 200, 300 or 400) and will have EITHER Ms. Patti Taddio and Mr. Brian OR Ms. Patti Francis and Ms. Katie. Ms. Patti and Mr. Brian will guide Communities 100 and 200, and Ms. Patti F. and Ms. Katie will have Communities 300 and 400. The general daily schedule is that students will begin the day with a Community Meeting and will then move directly into a two-hour morning work cycle. They will then break for HAC (outdoor time) and lunch and will then move into the two-hour afternoon work cycle. All students will see both of their teachers every day of the week. All students will end the day with elective courses, which operate on an alternating A/B schedule. There are many more Secondary Montessori elements that will be integrated into the daily schedule, which students will be trained on upon returning to school in August, so be sure to ask! Students will receive their community group on the first day of school during orientation.
2. Fall Camp dates are set! Communities 100 and 200 will be going to Stone Mountain State Park from September 14-16 and Communities 300 and 400 from September 21-23. We generally leave campus by 10:00 AM on departure dates and return by 1:30 PM to restore our gear. In order to make Fall Camp a reality, we will need 6 adult chaperones for EACH trip (total of 12 chaperones). If you are interested in coming along for this amazing journey, please read this Chaperone Application, complete and email to us by September 2nd. Please be sure to note which week of camp you would like to attend. Please also note that chaperones may not attend the same camp as their child. Please also be sure you are a registered CMS volunteer by completing the information at this link.
Please peruse the Fall Camp Packing List as well as general itinerary, which is subject to change slightly, based on service work opportunities at Stone Mountain, etc.
3. We will host a Meet-and-Greet on Thursday, August 25th from 12:00-4:00. This is an opportunity for students and families to come in and meet the staff, drop off school supplies, start organizing their locker (and learning how to lock and unlock it!) and get to know their new environment! Please drop by anywhere between these times, and please note that New Family Orientation, which was held in the spring of last school year, took the place of Open House. Montessori will NOT have Open House on 8/25 with the rest of the school but will have Meet-and-Greet during the day! We hope you can make it out, and we can’t wait to get to know all of you!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have as the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year approaches! Have a fantastic rest of summer, and we look forward to August!
